Students and staff from Cyberjaya College Kuching recently participated in the International Archives Week Forum titled “Exploring the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63): Sarawak’s Role in Strengthening Rights and Claims under the Malaysia Agreement 1963”, organised by the Sarawak State Library.
The educational forum provided participants with a deeper understanding of the historical significance of the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63), its role in the formation of Malaysia, and Sarawak’s position within the Federation. The event brought together experts and distinguished speakers who shared valuable perspectives on the development of MA63, Sarawak’s constitutional rights, current developments relating to the agreement, and the importance of preserving historical records through archives.
The programme was officiated by YB Datuk Hajah Sharifah Hasidah binti Sayeed Aman Ghazali, Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department (Law, MA63 and State-Federal Relations), who highlighted the importance of understanding Malaysia’s history, governance, and state-federal relations.
Through engaging presentations and discussions, students gained meaningful exposure to topics related to public policy, governance, nation-building, and historical preservation. The forum also encouraged critical thinking and civic awareness while fostering a greater appreciation for the role archives play in safeguarding historical documents and preserving national heritage for future generations.
Participation in educational programmes such as this reflects Cyberjaya College Kuching’s commitment to providing students with learning opportunities beyond the classroom. By engaging with contemporary issues and historical developments, students are empowered to become informed, responsible citizens with a broader understanding of Malaysia’s social, political, and cultural landscape.
Cyberjaya College Kuching extends its appreciation to the Sarawak State Library for organising this insightful forum and for providing students with the opportunity to deepen their knowledge of MA63, Sarawak’s history, and the importance of preserving historical records as part of the nation’s collective heritage.
